How to verify a financial provider in South Africa
Before opening an account, borrowing money, buying insurance or investing, check that the relevant company and financial service are correctly authorised or registered. A listing on WiT Money is not that check.
South African Reserve Bank and Prudential Authority
Relevant for checking registered banks and banking supervision. A bank registration does not set the terms of a particular account or loan.
South African Reserve Bank (opens in a new tab)Financial Sector Conduct Authority
Relevant to financial services authorisation, advisers and intermediaries within its mandate. Authorisation is for stated activities, not for every product a brand sells.
Financial Sector Conduct Authority (opens in a new tab)National Credit Regulator
Relevant to credit providers that must register under the National Credit Act. Whether registration is required depends on the credit activity and the Act.
National Credit Regulator (opens in a new tab)Council for Medical Schemes
Relevant to registration of medical schemes. Scheme registration is not an insurance licence, and the administrator is not the scheme.
Council for Medical Schemes (opens in a new tab)
A financial brand may contract through a different legal entity. Registration does not mean a product is suitable, and it does not mean the product is free from loss. These links go to the regulators' own websites. WiT Money is not endorsed by them.
Compare products, not only names
The directories name firms. The comparison pages explain the product. A provider card is not copied onto this page.
How WiT Money builds its provider directories
WiT Money groups financial providers by the service a reader is looking for. Inclusion is not an endorsement, a certification or a statement that the firm is suitable. A profile is published only when it can be written without inventing a licence number, a fee or a partnership. Where that check is not done, the directory stays empty.
Official websites are used for the address on a profile. Regulatory status on those profiles is still marked unverified, because appearing here is not a register search. Incomplete records are left out rather than filled in. Page reviewed 29 October 2026. The registers were not re-checked for every name on that day. No paid placement is active on this page.
